MicroJam is a mobile app for making tiny touch-screen musical performances with your friends. With MicroJam, you can record short jams on the touch screen, which can be shared online. You can play back and loop jams from your friends, as well as reply, which adds a new layer to someone else’s jam. To make music with MicroJam, just tap and swipe on the screen and your motions are transformed into sounds. There are different sound schemes to explore and it’s fun and easy for musical novices and experts alike! MicroJam has been created by music technology researcher Charles Martin at the University of Oslo as part of research into how smartphones can enhance musical creativity.
MicroJam is currently in beta testing with public release planned later in 2017. This work is supported by The Research Council of Norway as a part of the Engineering Predictability with Embodied Cognition project, under grant agreement 240862. Have a go with MicroJam at our Tech Showroom and try to record your best mobile jam!
